A Day in the Life of a Huntingdon Hawk: Adam Kilpatrick ‘24

Montgomery, Ala. – Andalusia, Alabama, native Adam Kilpatrick ’24 is a business administration major preparing to graduate in May. He has journaled his Thursday, February 8, showcasing a day in the life of a Huntingdon student.
“This morning the alarm went off at 6:00. I rolled out of bed like we do every Tuesday and Thursday morning for golf workouts. I quickly brush my teeth and put on the workout clothes of the day. My roommate Sam and I hurried over to the Roland Student Center to meet up with our teammates before workouts started. Around 6:35, Coach Mary came running up the stairs clapping to get us ready for a prayer and described the workout. Today, we hit the medium loop around Roland, push-up core, and a squat series with various mobility exercises.
We finished workouts with a prayer and headed to the Dining Hall for breakfast. My teammates and I enjoyed breakfast together and then I rushed home to shower to get ready for my internship. This semester, I only have class on Mondays and Wednesdays, so it allows me to spend a decent amount of time at my internship learning the legislative process.
At 8:20 I arrived at my internship with the Alabama League of Municipalities in downtown Montgomery. Today, the Alabama House of Representatives convened at 9:00 and the Alabama Senate started their day at 10:00. At 8:45 I walked over to the State House with my internship supervisors, Bryan Parker and Baker Allen. They know everybody and have introduced me to so many legislators, legislative staff, and lobbyists representing other Alabama groups. Upon arriving, we went through a security check and then headed up to the House viewing gallery on the sixth floor. Throughout the day, they discussed various bills and even passed a few.
For lunch, we went to Dirk’s Filet and Vine which is the best meat and three I have ever been to. After lunch we went back to the State House and sat in the Senate viewing gallery until they adjourned at 5:30. I then returned to campus, enjoyed dinner in the Dining Hall with some friends, and then relaxed in preparation for our golf qualifying round at 7:30 Friday morning at Montgomery Country Club.”
